WELCOME TO PAAGZ
The People’s Action for Accountability and Good Governance in Zambia (PAAGZ) is an independent and not-for-profit organisation working on governance and accountability processes. The organisation was founded on the belief that public sector performance is particularly important to the country’s poorest people, who rely disproportionately on government services, and improved service delivery in addressing high poverty and inequality levels. PAAGZ is coordinated by a passionate, multi-skilled and accomplished board members and foot soldiers.
ENSURE TRANSPARENCY
Our activities involve the training and capacity building of young people
and women at community level on the need for transparency and good practices in public
resource management and how that affects their livelihood. We focus on creating an
understanding on policy issues and mindset change to build the confidence of citizenry in
demanding for transparency and accountability.

ENABLE BROAD-BASED PARTICIPATION
We work to strengthen the political involvement of citizens
in decision-making processes for legitimacy and control. Democracy being the rule of the
people by the people and for the people, it matters the quality of citizen participation in the
democratic processes of a country. To challenge all forms of inequality.

IMPROVE ACCESS TO QUALITY PUBLIC SERVICES
Our target here is twofold;
the “supply side’ of accountability (the state institutions such as audit institutions and
parliament as well as broader governance reforms, for example to public procurement or
financial management) and the “demand side’ (to building an active citizen that participates and
co-creates in ensuring more transparent and accountable public institutions).

OUR WORKS
We believe social accountability and good governance are critical in reducing poverty and the ever widening inequality gap in Zambia. Our work is anchored on the three pillars which are Transparency, broad -based participation and access to quality public services by all. The HOW we do this is highlighted below.
01. ENSURE TRANSPARENCY
Our activities involve the training and capacity building of young people and women at community level on the need for transparency and good practices in public resource management and how that affects their livelihood. We focus on creating an understanding on policy issues and mindset change to build the confidence of citizenry in demanding for transparency and accountability.
02. ENABLE BROAD-BASED PARTICIPATION
We work to strengthen the political involvement of citizens in decision-making processes for legitimacy and control. Democracy being the rule of the people by the people and for the people, it matters the quality of citizen participation in the democratic processes of a country. To challenge all forms of inequality, we employ the bottomup approach because we believe that once the bottom is lifted, the top will rise in suit as well. It is therefore very important to equip and build the capacity of the people at the very bottom to participate effectively in the affairs of their communities and nation at large. The emphasis here is support people with tools to themselves and create the change want.
03. Enable Improved Access To Quality Public Services for all citizens
Our target here is twofold; the “supply side’ of accountability (the state institutions such as audit institutions and parliament as well as broader governance reforms, for example to public procurement or financial management) and the “demand side’ (to building an active citizen that participates and co-creates in ensuring more transparent and accountable public institutions). These activities are accomplished through dissemination of key reports to our target communities, evidence generation and policy recommendations to government and creation of digital tools such as live phone in media programmes; SMS platforms, websites, apps, social media that enable holistic advocacy online and offline.
