ARTISTIC FREEDOM IN ZAMBIA
Satire is widely used as a powerful tool for speaking truth to power, enabling artists and creatives to question government decisions. As a form of artistic expression, satire plays an important role in promoting accountability by challenging leaders and institutions through creativity and critical commentary.
The consequences of this have been that such artists no longer enjoy their freedom to perform and exhibit their art as a source of living. A direct attack of their earning abilities and an infringement on their freedom of expression. Those who fight back and stand their ground against State sanctioned oppression have found themselves in the walls of prison.
Because of this, many artists are losing their ability to work and make a living. If they don’t stop, they face threats, violence, or even jail time. Basically, freedom of expression is under attack, and artists are being persecuted for speaking truth to power. Freedom of expression is being censored for Artists and creatives.
